Food BLogger Wanna Be

I have been cooking up a storm lately. And, to spite our lousy produce in Ohio this time of year, I have continued to cook with tons of vegitables. It’s easier to do when your husband loves veggies. The kids…not so much. Just about every night Isabelle tells me my dinner is yucky and begs for some form of rice and chicken. What can I say, my kids are half Indian. I thought I would share some of my all time favorites (lately)

Sweet and Sour Chicken Stirfry
This is literally THE best sweet and sour chicken I have ever tasted. It’s no deep fried, and you can really add whatever kind of veggies you like, but the sweet and sour sauce is out of this world! (Let me know if you want the recipe, it was in a recent issue of Food Network Magazine)

Chicken Pad Thai
It took me forever to find a good Pad Thai recipe, but Conrad and I Love love love Pad Thai. Then it took me a couple of more months past forever to figure out that I can buy rice noodles at my local Giant Eagle and didn’t need a specialty store to get them. I skipped the raddish this recipe calls for and read all of the reviews for some hints on making it, but really…it is FANTASTIC. If you are a Pad Thai fan, you have to try it. Really, it’s as good as our favorite restaurant in town.

Peach Pie
I stirred up a simple peach pie filling out of some canned peaches I had and wanted to do something creative with them. So I had seen this recipe on a Bakerella’s website, and I decided to play around. It tasted good, but it was fun to make! Conrad kept telling me how we really should open a restaurant and how these would sell so well in India. I don’t know about that, but it was fun to make little pies in a cupcake pan and decorate each however my heart desires. I think they would be great for a party or buffet.

I love your title here...Food Blogger Wanna Be...you might be on to something there. I love that you add pictures to these recipes. Now the thing I want to know is what were any problems you ran into and the solution of course to some of these recipes.

On another note...you're girls are growing up so quickly, they're beautiful!!!

I wish I had time to cook more and that my husband loved vegetables. If I cook dinner with lots of veggies, Eric says the same thing Isabelle does :) He would like the pies if they were apple. They looked awesome though! Can't wait to see you guys Saturday! We miss you soooooooooooo much!

Those pies would sell well here too. Now the imported peaches might eat up your profit margin. But with mangoes... yummers. I was feeling proud of myself today... I made baba ganash for the first time (Med eggplant dip). Abe and I ate up the whole portion. I'd love that sweet & sour recipe and have been wanting to try pad thai for a long time. Thanks!

I used to hate most veggies until last year when I prayed for God to change my taste buds so that I could eat better. He did that (still can't eat broccoli or califlour {sp?} though). Anywho.... I would like recipes.... PLEASE especially for the Pad Thai. We eat that almost weekly from Bangkok. Maybe we can save some money. :) Thanks for sharing!

Michelle,
problems I ran into in the recipes are ingrediates that I didn't have and couldn't find easily. The Pad thai called for tamarind juice (which oddly enough I usually have but couldn't get to an indian/asian store) but found out that grapefruit juice is a good substitute...and it was! Also it called for "jaggery" which is just an asian form of brown sugar...so I just used brown sugar mixed with a little maple syrup. Turned out very authentic, if do say so myself. Thansk for the good questions!

And Mary, the link is in the post to the Pad Thai recipe..enjoy!

Leave it to me to be blonde. =P Thanks for the heads up on the substitutes though. :)There is Tamriand juice at Bangkok Grocery/Restaurant I think, so I'll have to look for it tonight since I'm getting Bangkok for dinner. :)
